Silica-Sand Extractor Motor Replacement

A heavily corroded, high-level 16.5 kW motor needed replacing on a silica-sand dust extractor serving a processing and grading plant. With the correct mount unavailable within the job’s time frame, Harvtec produced a CNC laser-cut mounting plate to fit the new motor to the existing extractor.

Weather exposure had taken its toll.

The existing motor was exposed to the elements and had suffered heavy corrosion. The damage was particularly clear around the cooling-fan cover and terminal box, with holes visible in both.

The extractor handled silica-sand dust as part of a processing and grading plant. Replacing its high-level motor meant addressing the condition of the equipment, the access and the mechanical fit of the replacement.

The mounting problem became part of the job.

A replacement motor was available, but the correct mounting arrangement could not be obtained within the time available. Fitting the new motor to the existing extractor needed a custom solution.

Harvtec produced a CNC laser-cut mounting plate and adapted the mounting arrangement so the replacement motor could be fitted. Electrical work, mechanical adaptation and fabrication came together to complete the installation.

Workshop problem-solving

A custom mount kept the replacement moving.

The mechanical fit mattered as much as sourcing the motor. With the required mount unavailable in time, a custom CNC laser-cut mounting plate provided the connection between the replacement motor and the existing extractor.

The job brought together replacement of the corroded motor, a custom mounting plate, workshop adaptation and installation at high level. It is a practical example of Harvtec following a repair through electrical, mechanical and fabrication work.

Maintenance and extraction performance.

For exposed fans and motors, covers, enclosures and mountings deserve attention alongside running faults. On a silica-dust system, a motor replacement is one part of looking after the equipment: effective exposure control and any examination requirements need their own competent assessment.
