A chargepoint needs attention throughout its working life. Harvtec can inspect and test an existing installation, investigate concerns and help you provide the electrical safety evidence requested by an insurer, landlord or managing agent.

In-use inspection and testing

We agree the extent of the inspection around the charger, its supply circuit, condition, usage and manufacturer’s instructions. Tell us about damage, unreliable charging, repeated trips or a planned inspection date.

  • Condition of the enclosure, mountings, charging cable and connector
  • Supply, earthing and protective devices, with appropriate electrical and chargepoint function tests
  • Recorded findings, test results, limitations and any repairs or further investigation needed
  • Follow-up inspection and maintenance arrangements based on the equipment, use and findings

Safety certificates and reports for insurance

If your insurer has asked for an EV charger safety certificate, send us their wording and deadline. We confirm the inspection scope and document needed before booking; your insurer decides whether the evidence meets its policy requirements.

  • New installation: an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) with inspection and test schedules
  • Periodic inspection: an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) covering the agreed installation or circuits
  • Equipment checks: a record of the agreed checks, findings and limitations; this alone does not replace an EICR
  • Clear findings and remedial actions, with the outcome based on inspection and test results

Include the postcode, charger make and model, number of chargepoints, previous certificates or reports, access arrangements and any insurer requirements. We confirm whether you need a charger-focused inspection or a wider property EICR.

The customer wanted a Zappi chargepoint at their apartment building in Carbis Bay but had struggled to find someone willing to take on the installation. Making it possible meant working through the shared-site arrangements as well as finding a suitable way to mount the charger.

Harvtec worked with the customer, other residents and the maintenance company responsible for the building to agree how the installation could go ahead. We designed and built a bespoke pedestal for the location, then installed the Zappi on it. The result was an installation shaped around the customer’s parking space and the people who shared the site.

A mounting solution made for the site

A stainless steel backplate, designed to fit.

This Zappi installation needed a mounting arrangement to suit the existing fence and panels. Harvtec designed a bespoke stainless steel backplate so the chargepoint could be fitted in the chosen position.

We worked with the customer and neighbours to arrange access and carry out the installation. The finished backplate gave the charger a dedicated mounting surface, bringing our bespoke design and electrical installation work together in one job.

Useful answers before you enquire

Can you help with EV charging at an apartment building?

Yes, we can help assess the practical arrangements. In the Carbis Bay installation shown on this page, we worked with the customer, other residents and the building’s maintenance company, and designed and built a bespoke pedestal. Each site needs its own assessment of parking, access, permissions and the electrical installation before work is agreed.

Can you make a bespoke charger mount?

We can discuss a mount designed for the location. The installations above include a Harvtec-designed and built pedestal and a bespoke stainless steel backplate. The fixing position, supporting structure and charger requirements need to be assessed for each job.

Can you quote before visiting?

Initial information helps us assess the work, but photographs alone may not establish supply suitability or the full cable route. We confirm whether a survey is needed before finalising the scope and price.

Can you install a charger I have already bought?

Send the make, model and installation information first. We need to check suitability and agree responsibility for supply, warranty and commissioning before accepting the installation.

Do you guarantee a particular charging speed or grant?

No. Charging performance depends on the vehicle, equipment and available supply. Any grant eligibility or scheme requirement must be checked separately; the quotation does not assume funding.

Can you inspect a charger installed by someone else?

Yes. Send the make and model, any installation certificate or previous report, and the reason for the check. We confirm the scope, access and suitability before booking. Missing original paperwork can be investigated, but a later inspection report does not recreate the original installer’s certificate.

Can you provide an EV charger safety certificate for insurance?

We can inspect and test the agreed EV installation and provide the appropriate report. Share the insurer’s exact request first: they may need an EICR, installation documentation or evidence that specified defects have been addressed. We explain the findings and any follow-up work; the insurer confirms acceptance.

How often should an EV charger be inspected?

The inspection and maintenance plan should reflect manufacturer guidance, the environment, usage, condition and previous findings, together with any insurer requirements. We agree the appropriate arrangements for your equipment. A damaged or faulty charger needs attention when the problem appears, rather than waiting for a scheduled visit.

Does a chargepoint check cover the whole property?

Only the extent recorded in the agreed scope and report is covered. A charger-focused inspection does not automatically assess every circuit in the building. If your insurer or property manager requires a whole-property EICR, tell us at the enquiry stage so the work can be scoped correctly.
