Hot Air Mover Refurbishment for a Steel Foundry
What started as a repair to a water-damaged fan casing became a wider refurbishment. Harvtec brought together site removal, workshop fabrication, motor and fan work, and inverter maintenance on a large hot air mover serving a steel foundry.

A casing repair became a wider refurbishment.
Water damage had caused extensive corrosion and holes in the fan casing. The square-to-round transition connecting the fan to the ductwork was also damaged. The initial request was to repair the casing; the work developed into a strip-down and refurbishment of the wider assembly.
The job combined repairs to the steelwork with attention to the motor, bearings, fan impeller and the inverter that drives the unit.
From the foundry to the workshop.
We dismantled the unit for removal from site and transported the casing to the workshop on a trailer. The size of the fan assembly meant lifting equipment was needed to separate the fan, motor and pedestal.
With the unit stripped down, we cleaned the components, dealt with the corrosion and repaired the damaged casing with patches. We also repaired the square-to-round transition before preparing and repainting the steelwork.

Motor, bearings and fan
Mechanical work beyond the casing.
The motor was refurbished, new bearings were fitted and the assembly was greased as part of the work. A new fan impeller was fitted, with checks for balance and concentricity — checking that it ran true.
The large motor, fan and pedestal assembly required lifting equipment during separation and handling. The photograph shows the scale of the components and the access needed for the work.
Drive maintenance
The inverter needed attention too.
We checked and cleaned the inverter that runs the hot air mover. Its internal cooling fan was causing cooling problems, so this was replaced as part of the job. The refurbishment covered the drive as well as the visible mechanical assembly.
The completed refurbishment.
The completed work brought together repaired casing and transition steelwork, a refurbished motor, new bearings, a new fan impeller, lubrication, repainting and attention to the inverter cooling system. It is an example of Harvtec taking a job through both mechanical and electrical work.
